A WOMAN'S PERSPECTIVE - HOME PLAN

A Woman’s Perspective - Home Plan

Karla found her ideal home plan; she made a few tweaks and now it’s perfect!

Homeowner’s Profile: Karla and her husband selected a two-story with future flexibility for their growing children (two sons, ages 5 and 3). Karla is a stay-at-home mom who hosts play days and birthday parties as well as entertaining friends on the weekends. Having a main floor play room that could be shut off from the main living areas was a priority. The upstairs office easily converts to a guest room for occasional visits from relatives.

Modifications Karla made to the Pebble Creek, #8100:

  1. Stretched the kitchen 5 feet to the left (even with the garage wall).

  2. Increased the garage to 22 by 24 feet.

  3. Moved the laundry room even with the extended kitchen, separating the laundry room from the service entry. The revised entry now includes an entrance to the half bath, a drop zone and a coat closet.

  4. Replaced the kitchen’s peninsula with a 4-foot island with a snack bar on one end. Removed the desk and created a wider pantry.

  5. Converted the dining room to a toy room/future study by enclosing the entry side of the dining room and adding French doors that open to the great room. A high transom window was added to the entry side of the room to bring in extra light, while shielding the view from the entry.

  6. Raised the lower level ceilings to 9 feet.

  7. Upstairs, Karla created a large walk-in closet in the master bedroom over the stretched area on the main level.

  8. Redesigned the master bath to include a larger shower, corner whirlpool and a double vanity with a linen cabinet above it.

  9. Moved the full bath between Bedrooms 2 and 3 and made it a Jack & Jill bath.

  10. Put French doors on Bedroom 4 and gave it a ¾ private bath, converting it to an office/guest suite.

  11. Created a large linen closet with a plant ledge above it in the hall.

  12. Added a window with a plant ledge on the staircase landing.
