LINDA'S
SUMMER TIPS
Consider
installing ceiling fans in upstairs bedrooms.
They’ll increase comfort at less expense than lowering
the thermostat on the central air conditioning. (The wind
chill created by a ceiling fan can make it feel 8° cooler
than the actual room temperature.) Many ceiling fans use the
same power as a 40-watt bulb. If you haven’t already
done so, switch the direction of your ceiling fans. Fans rotating
counter clockwise will draw warm air up to the ceiling (for
a cooling effect).
To
save on air-conditioning costs, keep your garage door closed
- even if you're working outside.
This will not only keep your home cooler, it is safer. Using
a hose, lightly spray debris from your outside air conditioner
unit. Don’t plant flowers or shrubs too close to your
unit; doing so can restrict its air flow. And try to dry laundry
early in the morning or in the evening.
Sprucing up this summer?
To make a room feel more cozy and intimate, use warm colors
(yellow, peach and red). To make a room feel larger and airier,
use blues, greens and other cool colors. When combining colors
in open areas, it’s safest to choose similar values
or intensities: clean colors with clean colors, grayed colors
with grayed colors, light colors with light colors.
